The Ancient Stunner: We Hardly Knew You!

Just what sort of weapon does an officer from the most advanced race of beings to grace two galaxies carry? In the Stargate Atlantis Season Two episode, “Aurora,” we got our answer. Sheppard’s team paid a visit inside the artificial world of the Ancient warship Aurora, where the minds of the ship’s personnel were kept alive in virtual reality.
The prop, a plastic and rubber stunt version, measures 12″ long by 2.5″ wide, with slide switch on side that activates an interior light. The image above shows the stunner with its light turned on. The shape of the weapon is what really offsets it from others made for Stargate. Not many are designed to be held like a flashlight.
It is curious that “Aurora” is the only episode which features this stunner. Atlantis was abandoned at the time these weapons were in service, and every warship recovered by the Atlantis expedition appears never to have included an armory. Atlantis itself seemed void of any weapon storage bays. It seems as though the Ancients did a good job disposing of them before they left the Pegasus Galaxy for the Milky Way.
Too bad they didn’t use the same caution with all their other technology.
