If you’re a Stargate SG-1 fan you’re probably pretty familiar with the serpent tattoo that Teal’c had on his forehead throughout the show. This was perhaps Stargate’s most recognizable symbol for slavery. But what about other kinds?
The Wraith tracking device, embedded into Ronon Dex’s back, forever branded him a Runner — a human the Wraith use for sport. Runners were selected by Wraith mainly because of their stamina, but also other reasons which were not fully explored. Ronon had this tracking device placed in him twice, and it was removed in the episodes “Runner” and “Sateda.” Another Runner, Kiryk, also had a similar device (“Tracker”).
Never before have fans had the chance to see this item up-close, let alone own one of these remarkable hero props!
The tracking device, made of resin, features a green crystal on the outside, while the reverse has seven small, tooth-like spikes (one spike is missing). Red silicone string simulates sinew (where the tendrils would likely bond with the spinal cord), and three blue-painted spikes point inward.
This tracking device defined Ronon, not only as a Runner, but as a man of perseverance. He could have given up at any point over the decade he fled from his vampirous enemies, but he survived long enough to stumble upon members of Atlantis expedition. It was Dr. Carson Beckett who removed the tracking device from Ronon’s back not once, but twice. Later Rodney McKay, under the influence of Ancient powers, would permanently heal his scar tissue (“Tao of Rodney”).
