Have you ever wanted your very own piece of a Stargate? The folks at io9 are offering you the chance! The Web site, in cooperation with Propworx, will be offering a segment to one lucky person who replies to their news story with a worthy comment.
“All you have to do is explain in comments why you want the prop, why you deserve the prop, and what you will do with the prop – and this piece could be yours,” said io9′s Meredith. “I will select the most creative answer, although feel free to help me pick commenters.”
Check out the news story at this link, and be sure to give it your best in the comments section! Already several people have created art, posted videos, and more. It should be an interesting competition!

Hi my name is Tom Arington I am fifteen years old. 4 years ago I first caught an episode of Stargate SG-1 on the sci-fi channel. It was love at first site. The characters, the stories, and most of all the mysterious portal known as the stagate, kept me glued to the TV whenever it was on. Since then I have purchased both series on DVD, and watched an episode every night until I had seen every single one. When I ran out of new stargate episodes to watch I was so depressed I began watching them again and have currently seen all 314 or so, at least three times. I purchased all of the action figures and other merchandise and cherrish the franchise now more than ever. You will never find a fan with more knowledge and pation for this show, and for the franchise. When I heard Propworx was auctioning off some of the props from the shows I was extatic, until I saw the prices and realized I may never own a peice of stargate history, I scraped all my savings together but it just wasn’t enough. It would be the happiest moment of my life if I found out I won this section of the stargate. I keep it and cherish it for the rest of my life, and if I ever have children I would pass it down them as part of this wonderfull franchises legacy. Thank you so much for reading my submision, I would be eternally gratefull if you chose to bestow this stargate artifact upon me.
Tom, be sure to post this on the io9 comments thread in the link provided. It’s their site that is running the contest!
This part of the stargate is really beautiful. I love the design of the different stargates. But I prefer the Atlantis stargate.
I’d love to have this. As a memento of a show I loved watching, a great cast of characters. It is also a fabulous icon of the vastness of opportunities awaiting us. One Stargate is analogous to immeasurable opportunities and adventures. I like to think of life the same way.
Always wanted to cast 9 segments in concrete & lay them around a pond!
Would also need a chevron to make molds( come on guys, just one “little” extra piece..;)
This is an awsome opportunity for someone to get a rare piece of memorabelia. I own and have watch all the SG-1 (favorite series), atlantis and movies 23 times now. Im 19, I’ve recently moved out of home and got married. and when i get a home of my own in the next year or so, my wife and i would LOVE to reproduce some of this and make it a door to our home.
I would never be able to afford such an awesome piece of the series.
My name is Cameron, I live in Montreal, Canada and am 20-years-old.
I have been watching stargate for so long that I can not honestly remember when I started waching SG-1 on the SPACE Channel.
I am quite overly nostalgic and sometims obsess to see the concervation of such rare items that I can get my hands on -which is rare since I’m too preoccupied with college to get the money to get said items in the first place-
I have managed to aquire some of the Battlestar Galactica props back when they auctionned them off, and spent much time and money to ensure they could be displayed for all to enjoy while protecting them from deteriorating.
In the extreamly off chance that I were to win this stargate piece; I would most deffinately myself make a custom glass case to hold, and display it -and bring to any local sci-fi conventions to put in the art gallery for all to enjoy if the con permits-
Sure it sounds grand to use it as a refference to make a full-scale stargate. but that seems like a rather long, diffcult and expencive task -though do-able- never-the-less; I would take the time to take many pictures, take measurements etc to share with the other fans the precice measurements, colours and details so that they may themselves make their grand scaled stargates if they want to; instead of sitting atop someone’s desk, for just them and their friends to admire as a curiosity, instead of a piece of Stargate Atlantis itself, made for all fans to enjoy and be part of.
P.S.
I am studying in Industrial-Design, and given enough time could produce a 3-D Solid-Works model of the stargate as a gift to the community to download.
I am Watching Stargate from the begin when I 5 years old I know everything about Stargate it is my Favorite TV Show I can’t follow it on Sy-Fy. So I buy all the Seasons on DVD so I can always see them when I want. My Favorite Episode is the 1st one Becaus there is everything New and you see the StarGate for the First time that whas awesome!!!
My favorite Character is Jack O’Neil cause he hase sense of Humor xD.
Everyday, I go through the Gate, along with the members of SG-1, or SGA… living vicariously from my bed, as I share their adventures. Nine years ago, I was given eighteen months to live, having been diagnosed with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. Rejected for a heart/lung transplant, I waited and hoped for the FDA approval of a new drug that might very well save my life. The approval came in time and, indeed (as Teal’c would say) it did save me. However, since then I’ve been rather limited in what I can do, both physically, as well as financially, as I’ve been on disability ever since. Since I tire very easily, I don’t get out much and can no longer travel, due to being on oxygen. (Airlines have strict policies about oxygen on planes.) I have always wanted to attend a convention, especially one of those held in Vancouver, so I might visit Bridge Studios and take the tours. Alas, I fear that will never happen, for the reasons stated before. Still, my two hours each day spent reliving the adventures of Jack, Sam, Daniel and Teal’c, along with all the other familiar faces of the SGC, are wonderful. They are beloved guides, taking me to worlds I could only dream of otherwise. When I say they are beloved, I truly mean that. When Don S. Davis passed away, I mourned him terribly. Oftentimes, when watching a TV show or movie of Richard Dean Anderson’s, I’ll recognize Dan Shea or Don Davis in there with him! And Michael Shanks? As a huge fan, I watch everything he guest-stars in! It’s nearly the same story with the cast of Atlantis, too. I find myself eagerly awaiting their next appearances. David Hewlett is hilarious when he ‘tweets’! And Paul McGillion scene in the new ‘Star Trek’ movie was charming. Still… it’s hard, knowing that I’ll never be able to ‘join in’ and have the convention experience that so many fans rave about. I can only imagine what it would be like to see the cast members live, in person. To get their autographs, pose for photos with them and, in general, do all the things my fellow fans talk about online. As a person on disability, I live on a very fixed income, so I can’t afford to buy either series on DVD. That’s why those two hours on SyFy are so important to me. They’re my escape. With SG-1, I can fly an F-302, battle System Lords, Replicators and the occasional nasty Senator. Why, I even have my heartstrings tugged on at times by occasional bouts of angst and off-world romance. Thing is, these shows are so well done that we, the viewers (or at least I), have grown to love and care about these people. Even what you might call ‘peripheral cast members’, like Walter, Jay Felger, Nyan, Siler, Dr. Lee and more. When they hurt, so do we. We missed them when those series ended. We still do. I’m sure I’m not saying this very well, but I suppose it all boils down to this… I love the people who inhabit the worlds of Stargate. All this time, I’ve seen auctions and known I could never afford the items on them. Still, I dreamed of owning a hat or a picture signed by the cast. This, though? This is different. This is part of THE Gate. Part of that portal you step through to live out dreams. Yes, it sounds a bit ‘escapist’ I know, but if you’ve lived in ‘limbo’ as long as I have? You need a little escapism each day, just to stay sane. *grin* The wonderful creators, cast and crew of Stargate have done that for me. They gave me WORLDS I could escape to… every day. For two whole hours. And truly, I thank them for that.
I suppose I’d just like to hold onto a piece of those worlds… forever.
Wow, this in my room would make me the happiest guy in the entire universe. I can remember when I was 9 years old, all saturdays, I, my mother and my father watched Stargate on TV. I was fascinated by this serie, it was a new world for me and it was great. When I win it, I would put it on a place where everyone see it when they come in my room. For me it had an emotional value, but I don’t think I would win it, because I’m living in Switzerland and it’s too far for sending it.
Really, I’m addicted to stargate. Few years ago I lost my dad, and the personalities and character of Sam, Daniel, O’Neill and Teal’c help me more. Thanks for walk with me in a really bad time.
